The Saraya

back to attractions

You will be impressed by the splendid entrance to the ancient Turkish government building

“Saraya” is a Turkish word for castle and indeed the Saraya is a structure built during the Turkish rule in Akko, in the late 18th century, where the offices of the civilian regime officials were located.

The gate to the building is most impressive and it is built in the Ablaq monarchic, architectural style.

The building has two floors, built around a stone paved central courtyard. The Ottoman Saraya is built on the remains of the St. John’s Church from the Crusader Period.

Today the building serves as a community center for Old Akko.
